Rio Grande Delta Audubon Meeting Sabal Palm Opening, Ghost Bird Film, Reforestation

Sabal Palm Sanctuary is opening again.  Jimmy Paz working through Gorges Science Foundation with the UT Brownsville will be cleaning up and then opening the sanctuary.    Volunteers are needed now to clear the trails, butterfly gardens, and structures.  Jimmy is coming to RGDA meeting Monday with some news on the opening date.

Ghost Bird film will be shown at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center Saturday, October 16.  Past Mayor Peggy Trahan will inform us of plans for the program, birding and nature center, events at the Birding Center.

Ghost Bird tells the fascinating story of the Ivory-billed woodpecker's controversial rediscovery in 2005.  Believed extinct for over half a century, the iconic bird's resurrection was heralded around the world as proof that conservation efforts on behalf of threatened species were making the critical difference between life and death.  Informative, moving and beautifully filmed, this feature-length documentary raises important questions while featuring illuminating interviews with David Sibley, Nancy Tanner, Dr. Rick Prum, Dr. Jerome Jackson and David Luneau.  It is an award-winning environmental documentary.

The tickets are $50/person and include appetizers, drinks, entertainment and the documentary film.  We have limited seating in our auditorium of 100 people.  Please call directly or email for tickets to Darla Lapeyre at the Birding & Nature Center (956-243-8179) or spiedc@aol.com
