The Endangered Ocelot of South Texas
By Jody Mays and Shane Wilson

Jody Mays is the Wildlife Biologist at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge with lead responsibility for the Fish & Wildlife Service for the endangered Ocelots.

Shane Wilson is the President of Friends of Laguna Atascosa NWR. Shane will address the "Friends" mission in the fight to save this magnificent cat from extinction.

I understand some new photographs will make both these presentation a site to see the Ocelots importance.

Migration Fallout - Continues into May
Sabal Palm, SPI 3+ locations,
Laguna Atascosa, Boca Chica

South Padre Island (SPI) is probably the best known, but the other locations are extra good during Fallout. First, find a day or time the winds are out of the Northeast at 12 MPH or higher to blow the migrating birds from their flight over the Gulf of Mexico to land. Fallout on a sunny day gives excellent light for morning photos. Two of the best spots on SPI are the Convention Center and Sheepshead.

Birdiest City and County in the USA Contest

The RGV does not even show up in this important event. Corpus Christi and Nueces County, Texas are consistent winners. Where is Brownsville and Cameron County? See an article "2006 America's Birdiest City/County competition" for winners and contest details. Bird count is over a 72 hour period during April and May. Contest is over at the end of May. See what Corpus Christi thinks about birding.
