Lee and Madeline cooked and stuffed 2,000 hot dogs. Fish and Wildlife personnel (15) filled in with the stuffing. Rain threatened the event, but we did not get the rain expected. Thanks to Nancy Brown for organizing the event.

"Butterflies"
Presented by Lee Zieger
Many butterflies of both Texas and NE Mexico

Lee Zieger will make a hour photograph presentation of butterflies with time for questions and answers. The presentation will include species from both sides of the Rio Grande River. Come see lots of flower pictures the butterflies feed from. Learn the better butterfly viewing locations in both the Rio Grande Valley and NE Mexico.

You will see some photos not in this or other newsletters or my web sites. The lack of photographs is due to a number being plagiarized on personal, educational, and business internet sites. I wonder about how many I do not know about. A Red Cracker is one of many very special butterfly that cracks.

Call2Recycle September 2009 Newsletter on recycling rechargable batteries

Recycling 101: Does Recycling Really Make a Difference?
Americans purchase nearly 3 billion batteries every year to power radios, toys, cellular phones, watches, laptops and power tools.

What happens to all those batteries? According to ConsumerReport.org, a typical new battery contains up to 80 percent recycled lead and plastic from former batteries. Call2Recycle helps protect the environment and keep heavy metals out of local landfills by properly recycling rechargeable batteries and cell phones and reusing the reclaimed metals.
