The 109th Christmas Bird Count
Sunday, December 14, 2008 to Monday, January 5, 2009 |
The Rio Grande Valley CBC coordinator Martin Hagne of Valley Nature Center in Weslaco will let us know what the count is about. The history of the birds in our area is important. National Audubon is the primary sponser of this record keeping effort.
Martin has a short power point presentation, then the paper records we need, maps of the CBC area, and who they will be submited too.
See the Audubon CBC web page http://www.audubon.org/Bird/cbc/
Join Audubon's citizen science team to tell the world by birds are needed. You don't need to be an expert birder to be on the CBC team. |

Harris Hawk Family |
A Harris Hawk Family is growing with a Fall Nesting. Three chick started out and as of this writing two have survived. One almost fell off the nest today, November 2, 2008. Look at the pictures from the nesting femal below to the whole family above on October 10, 2008 with the picture below today. You can see the chick's growth.
Perhaps a field trip could be arranged at the meeting to go see this family. You won't even need to get out of your car.
Come to the meeting to help set the time and date.
