"Endangered species of The Lower Rio Grande River as related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill"
Presented by Lee Zieger

Rio Grande Delta Audubon meeting program will elaborate on the Endangered Species Dayimportance June 7, Monday.  The Endangered Species Act of 1973 then with the U.S. Senate action in 2006 created Endangered Species as the third Friday in May each year.  This act covers all species thus protecting the biodiversity of all living beings.

Some of the local species include Kemp's Ridley Turtle, Ocelots, Piping Plover, Roseate Spoonbill, Brown Pelican, and Hawksbilled Turtle. Audubon has gone on to include all coastal and wet lands wading and nesting birds. Gulf Stream flows and eddies will show how species can be effected.

Business Meeting

Discussion and additional suggestions on the following topics.

  • Fund raising opportunities will be discussed with one being an annual meeting with a meal, silent auction, and speaker.
