monthly program “Birding in the El Cielo, Mexico”
mountains and cloud forest 260 miles south of
Brownsville.  Birds, scenery, people, plus flora
and fauna presented with vivid photography
and narrative.

See lots of bird photos from the past year. Northern Potoo, Ornate Hawk Eagle, Woodcreepers. Woodpeckers, Squirrel Cuckoo, Great Curassow, and more.

Get a report about the trip last week on the birding, butterflies, and travel conditions. Spotted 137 bird species in the three-night / four day trip in spite of low temperatures and some rain.

Valley Land Fund, McAllen, Texas 

The Valley Land Fund is a 501(c) (3) non-profit land trust based in McAllen, Texas, and is looking for an Executive Director to manage the organization’s day-to-day operations and land protection program.

The Valley Land Fund is a 24-year old organization that works to preserve, enhance and expand the native wildlife habitat of the Rio Grande Valley through education, landownership and the creation of economic incentives for preservation.  Owns or oversees 10,000 acres of private wildlife habitat.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Experienced leader with proven management, fundraising, marketing and complex transactional skills. Works w/ Board of Directors to develop and maintain comprehensive operation and land conservation program in South Texas. 

·       Manage staff, contractors and volunteers
·       Negotiate and manage land conservation transactions: conservation easements, acquisitions, other complex conservation strategies
·       Develop and implement stewardship programs
·       Track/analyze conservation project areas
·       Coordinate regular communications with Board Members, preserve owners, members, public
·       Identify/prioritize program opportunities
·       Oversee fund raising, grant writing, planning efforts

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
·       Degree in natural or political science, environmental policy, business management, agriculture, range management, ranch management or relevant
·       Minimum three years applicable experience w/min. 2 years fundraising experience
·       Knowledge of land conservation methods; experience with government agencies
·       Excellent interpersonal communication and persuasive writing skills
·       Strong analytical, computer and marketing skills
