Hurricanes -
The season is coming - get prepared. |
Geoff
Bogorad will talk about the National Weather Service including
some brief history and how the local Brownsville office and other
offices in general serve the public and will also talk about
(CoCoRaHS) Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.
He is the Senior Forecaster
with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Brownsville has 19 years of
operational forecasting experience with emphasis in aviation, marine
and severe weather.
His education and service really qualifies him for his position click to see
it all.
Jesse
Haro will give a presentation on hurricanes with emphasis
on
the preparedness and the 2007 outlook. I requested this
because
hurricane season is just starting. He currently specializes
is raising public awareness about the dangers of tropical
cyclones. He is a member of the National Hurricane Center
and FEMA’s Hurricane Liaison Team, and was on duty at the National
Hurricane Center in Miami prior to and during the landfall of Hurricane
Katrina. Click to his bio as he will have some hurrican stories.

See those strange creatures at the top of the page. |
A BLUE
Green Jay is at the Laguna Atascosa NWR. I have seen it
twice on three trips there. It is in the office area including
the photo blind. A point and shoot camera can get good photos.
The Road
Runners are not road running as much. Several were
seen in trees for good long looks. This one was on the road
leading to the NWR entry. |
HLS Border Fence |
Lots and lots of information has crossed my desk and e-mail.
Some I have forwarded on about how groups like us and others
are meeting this challenge. Some have already got bumper
stickers out while other have presented testimony. Brownsville
and Cameron
County leaders are all against a solid border fence. Few
if any current resolution from C of C, Brownsville, or Cameron
county are on record. A recent e-mail from Martin Hagne had
a link of the May 20, 2007 meeting in Brownsville and Austin
that is very very worth while viewing and listening plus forward
to others you know interested in what is really happening to
people on the border. The linked security fence map will give
you some specifics on where the fence is planned.
1) YouTube news report in Brownville & Austin of the May 10
meetings.
2) Leaked Homeland Security Fence Map
3) Secure Fence Act of
2006 (HR 6061)
Come to the meeting for discussion. |

The current seismic testing in the Laguna Madre will led
to drilling if patterns are as usual for Sanchez Oil. The testing
by explosions
has
negatively effected fishing and birding. You can read up on
a view point in detail from clicking above for a link. Another
experience with this company can be see at www.utwatch.org.
How is this effecting the Colonial bird nesting and Green Island? |
Please forward this newsletter to others and ask them if we can
put them on our e-mail list. |
