President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn joined Lee Zieger for their first planned Birding Vacation anywhere ever and he chose our area. Lee organized the trip lodging, food, itinerary, and birding. You can see photos and read about the planning process and then the trip by clicking on the June 2004 Newsletter. You can also see President Jimmy Carter’s personal comments at Brownsville Herald News. Read about the whole trip in our June 2004 Newsletter and Birder's Digest Sept/Oct 2004 issue by Jimmy Carter.

Rio Grande Delta Audubon (RGDA) holds monthly meetings with speakers, does field trips, and supports environmental conservation for our ecosystem, wildlife, and birding. RGDA sponsors the Brownsville International Birding Festival. Volunteers offer education for the youth and adults alike in nature awareness, back yard birding, gardening for birds and butterflies, area birding hotspots, Mexico Birding, and more. Plus the outside public learns about the nature opportunities available in South Texas. We work with all parts of the environmental community, National Wildlife Refuges, sanctuaries, and nature groups to make our home a better place to live .
